Extractions

Our dentists make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay is so deep that the tooth is no longer salvagable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.

FAQ

Do I need my tooth extracted?

In order to determine if your tooth needs to be extracted, our dentist will do a series of tests to determine the vitality of the tooth as well as radiographs to determine if the can be salvaged.

What should I expect during an extraction procedure?

Our dentists are trained to extract teeth with the least amount of discomfort. If it has been determined that your tooth needs to be extracted, the dentist will review the steps in extraction and home care before we begin the procedure.

How long is the healing process?

Although initial closing of the tooth socket will take a week or more, it can take months before the gums have completely closed and smoothed over. The most discomfort will be in the first couple of days.
